Product Design Companies Feature New Designs for Home Interiors

The 100% Design Show in London last September featured over 450 designers and their wares. Embroidered wall paper, tall standing hangers, and twig benches were just a few of the new creations unveiled at this annual design event. Find out what curious new things exist to make your house interior design more interesting.

The New York Times covered the event, reporting on several noteworthy designs by new and established independent designers.

An Eco-Conscious Bench

One of the new product designs the Times featured includes Russell Pinch's Twig Bench, which looks exactly as it sounds: a rustic bench that comprises a bundle of narrow, tightly-bound hazel wood twigs. The bench sells for $2,030 and is also environmentally friendly, as hazel wood is said to grow very quickly. Pinch is a British designer who founded Pinch, a furniture, product, and interior design company.

House and Interior Design Defined by Wall Coverings

Another design company featured at the show was Fromental, a London-based company that specializes in hand-painted wall coverings to spruce up a house's interior. The wall paper is made in China, where it is hand-painted and embroidered onto silk panels in a variety of traditional designs including chinoiserie, adding a touch of Asian influence to the décor of a house. Panels vary in price according to size and level of detail from $600 to more than $1,000.

Mathmos, another product design company, showcased its answer to barren interior walls, Surreal Wallpaper. A small projector displays an image on a wall, which unfolds as the disc moves through the projector, which may be propped up on a floor, desk, or any other surface. Projectors cost $135 and come with a disc.
